Grants and scholarships. General information
What are grants and scholarships?
Asking this question, we somehow intuitively know the answer to it. What's this? is the financial means allocated by someone for our education. What is the difference? Scholarships are awarded for merit or special academic excellence. This is the so-called "merit-based" financial assistance, i.e. depending on your success and talents. A grant is an amount that covers all or almost all of your education expenses. Grants can be full or partial. They are issued free of charge. Most grants are given to those who, for whatever reason, are not able to pay for their education, but are promising scientists, researchers, etc.
Who pays scholarships and grants?
There are many organizations that provide financial aid to potential college and university students. First of all, these are the educational institutions themselves, which provide financial support to their students, as a rule, on a competitive basis. Grants, for obvious reasons, are the most difficult to obtain, but realistic.
Secondly, when choosing where to study abroad, it is best to inquire about whether the government of the country can help you. The government of many countries, incl. including such as the USA, Canada, Germany, France, provides financial assistance not only to its own, but also to foreign students. Government assistance can be provided at various levels - federal, regional, etc.
Another option is to get a special scholarship or study grant from the government or some non-governmental organization in Russia.
The final source of financial assistance is private foundations. To get sponsorship from a private organization, you need to contact foundations. To do this, you should directly contact the foundation interested in the development of your field of research.

If the idea didn't work out...
Another way is to send information about yourself to all universities or colleges that have caught your attention. Sometimes it works. There are examples when potential students sent letters with requests to universities in different countries and received very attractive offers from them.
Basically in the UK, grants are issued for the second and subsequent stages of higher education (for example, the Chevening scholarship for master's programs)
