“ A great nation is a nation that respects its heroes”, and “We should never forget history”, those were the words of the first President of Indonesia, Ir. Sukarno in his speech. This expression illustrates how important history is in the continuation of the nation, and the struggle to achieve independence from the hands of the invaders is evidence for the nation, behind the struggle the name of the nation's founder is engraved. Because the independence of the Republic of Indonesia will not be separated from the memory of the services of the Heroes who have seized and presented independence as we feel today. 1 A hero is someone who is considered noble because his actions have influence and benefit the interests of many people. In English, a hero is called a "hero" which means a legendary figure in mythology who is endowed with extraordinary strength, courage, ability and is recognized as a descendant of gods. A hero is a person who always defends the truth and defends the weak even though the threat of life is lost. As the nation's successors, we must appreciate the services and sacrifices of the fighters/heroes who have struggled to defend the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. For the appreciation and respect from the Government and the people of Indonesia sincerely to the heroes who fought and defended the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia by fighting to take up arms, defending the independence and freedom of their homeland , the Indonesian government gave a sign of honor as a Veteran of the Republic of Indonesia as stipulated in Law no. 15 of 2012 concerning Veterans of the Republic of Indonesia. The President of the Republic of Indonesia has also determined that August 10 is National Veterans Day and not a holiday. National Veterans Day commemorates the armistice of 10 August 1949 after the Independence Fighters of the Republic of Indonesia against the Dutch Army. The purpose of this paper is for readers to understand who can be called a veteran, what their rights are and how the administrative process to become a veteran of Indonesia is. With the aim of becoming knowledge for the personnel of the Ministry of Defense, especially the personnel of the Directorate General of Pothan, so that they can help inform prospective veterans, although the Directorate of Veterans has socialized it to several regions and through electronic media, there are still some of our brothers and sisters who do not understand this. Discussion Veterans can now get their rights guaranteed by the state, the State guarantees the rights of Veterans in accordance with Law Number 15 of 2012 concerning Veterans of the Republic of Indonesia, which was followed up by Government Regulation Number 67 of 2014 and its amendments . Part of the contents of the implementing regulations of this Law regulates the types and rights of Veterans. 1. RI Veteran Type Types of Veterans of the Republic of Indonesia are determined based on Veteran events . In general, there are three levels of Veterans, the highest is Veterans of the war of independence, then Veterans of war to defend the nation's independence from foreign aggression, and the next is Veterans of war to defend the common interests of the nations that are their allies. Based on the level of Veterans, Veterans of the Republic of Indonesia consist of: Types and Classification of Veterans according to their service period 1. Veterans Struggle for Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, those who fought in the period (17 August 1945 to 27 December 1949) with the division of groups: Group A fought for a minimum of 4 years, Group B fought for a minimum of 3 years, Group C fought for a minimum of 2 years, Group D fought for a minimum of 4 years at least 1 year, Group E struggling 6 months. 2. Veterans Defending Trikora, those who fought in the period (19 December 1961 to 01 May 1963) with the division of groups: Group A fought for a minimum of 18 months, Group B fought for a minimum of 12 months, Group C fought for a minimum of 6 months, Group D fought for a minimum of 3 months, Class E struggles 3 months 3. Veterans Defending Dwikora those who fought in the period (3 May 1964 to 11 August 1966) with the division of groups: Group A fought for a minimum of 27 months, Group B fought for a minimum of 18 months, Group C fought for a minimum of 12 months, Group D fought for a minimum of 6 months, Group B fought for a minimum of 6 months E struggled at least 3 months 4. Veterans Defending Seroja those who fought in the period (May 21, 1975 to July 17, 1976) with the division of groups: Group A fought for a minimum of 14 months, Group B fought for a minimum of 12 months, Group C fought for a minimum of 9 months, Group D fought for a minimum of 6 months, Group E struggle for at least 3 months. 5.
